Community, Economic and Urban Development

The program prepares students to work in private, public, and nonprofit organizations engaged in various community, and economic development activities, including but not limited to the following vocational positions: City Planner, Community Development Director, Community Development Planner, Housing Development Specialist, Housing Grant Analyst, Neighborhood Planner, Planner, Planning Director, Regional Planner, Urban Design Consultant.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

    • Students will prepare a PowerPoint presentation on a community planning initiative or other related effort that they have been exposed to in the South Bay or in the broader San Diego region.
    • Students will research and analyze a current business, community or economic development issue and prepare a report and PowerPoint presentation that includes an analysis of the issue(s) and provides recommendations for follow-up.
    • Students will prepare research papers that critically analyze real problems and challenges and/or case studies related to the legal environment of business, human resource management, mediation & conflict management, and business innovation.
    • Student will also satisfy this competency in the preparation of the report described above in Box A in this Information Competence Section.
    • Students will prepare a report describing their investigation into and actual involvement/role in a diverse community's planning or economic development committee or council.

Students who complete this program will have acquired the necessary analytical tools to successfully secure gainful employment in the field of study.
