Transfer Preparation* (Major Code: B1890)

Prepares student for transfer and for entry-level positions in the field of social work.  Social work is an applied behavioral science that emphasizes the application of behavioral science principles in a variety of cultural contexts.  Social work students are expected to think critically and scientifically about behavior, to apply the principles of the behavioral sciences, and to understand the role of values in diverse cultural settings.  As a profession, social work focuses on methods for helping people from many different social groups to improve the quality of their lives.

• Analyze, formulate, and influence social policies within the fields of social work and human services.
• Employ ethical principles of the field of social work and human services to guide fieldwork experience and future professional practice.

Students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university should complete courses specific to the transfer institution of choice. University requirements vary from institution to institution and are subject to change. The following are suggested GE courses for the Social Work and Human Services major: HLTH 212, PSYC 230, PSYC 250, SOC 106, SOC 110, SOC 116,  and SOC 135.

To earn an associate degree, additional general education and graduation requirements must be completed.
