American Sign Language

Certificate of Achievement
Transfer Preparation* (Major Code: 01486)

The Certificate of Achievement in American Sign Language equips students with essential skills in expressive and receptive ASL communication and a foundational understanding of Deaf culture. Through interactive coursework and cultural exploration, students develop the ability to communicate effectively in ASL in a variety of personal and professional contexts.

This certificate provides preparation in entry-level interpersonal communication for those interested in working or engaging with the Deaf community in both private and public settings. It is ideal for students seeking to complement other fields of study or enhance career opportunities where ASL knowledge and Deaf cultural awareness are valuable assets.

Students who wish to pursue careers directly serving the Deaf community, such as interpreting, Deaf education, or related professions, are encouraged to continue their studies through the Associate of Arts (AA) in ASL program, which offers advanced course work and field-specific preparation.
