Service learning gives students a rigorous academic course, incorporating critical thinking and reflective assignments which utilize community service, along with readings in social issues, as a basis for the course work. It allows students an opportunity to do volunteer work for college credit, and to apply knowledge gained in the classroom. [D; CSU]
