An introductory course using microeconomic models to understand individual decisions by consumers and firms, market outcomes including market failure, elasticity, market structures, labor markets, inequality, and the impact of government policies. At Southwestern College, students will also explore key microeconomic topics, including scarcity and its effects, production and cost theory, and specialization and trade. An introductory course using models of the domestic and international economy to understand national income, unemployment, inflation, economic growth, inequality, the financial system, and monetary, fiscal, and other economic policies. In addition, at Southwestern College, students will explore foundational macroeconomic concepts such as market systems, aggregate measures of economic activity, and macroeconomic equilibrium. Presents a nontechnical introduction to the basic concepts of economics.
