Campus Safety and Security
Southwestern College is a safe institution where students can pursue their educational goals in a positive and secure campus environment.
It is the policy of the Southwestern Community College District Governing Board to provide public safety protection and services to the college community; its students, faculty, staff members, and visitors and to protect and secure the property of the District. This responsibility is entrusted to the College Police Department.
The College Police Department provides constitutional policing and public safety services that support and contribute to the educational philosophy of Southwestern College. We recognize that effective law enforcement relies upon partnerships with those we serve and this is only obtained by building and fostering trust. We pledge to work cooperatively with those we serve to promote a safe and positive learning environment. The safety of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors is our primary concern. However, campus safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Crime does occur from time to time and it is incumbent upon all of us to be aware of potential vulnerabilities and to report criminal or suspicious activity. All students, faculty, and staff members are encouraged to remain alert and security conscious. Students, faculty, staff, and visitors partner with the College Police to create a safe, secure, and conducive learning environment.
One essential ingredient of any successful crime prevention program is an informed public. The Southwestern Community College District seeks to inform students, faculty, and staff members in a timely manner of any criminal activity or security problem that may pose a reasonable threat to their safety in accordance with the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, otherwise known as the Jeanne Clery Act. Such information will be distributed to students through this report, newsletters, posted notices, District email, student publications, the District’s website, and through emergency and timely warning notification.
The Annual Security Report can be accessed on the College Police website.
The College Police Department posts criminal activity on a Daily Crime Log that can be accessed on the College Police website or upon demand at each campus location. The log is updated within two business days of a crime being reported and includes the date reported, date and time of occurrence, nature of the crime, the campus and location, general information, and the disposition.
