Transfer Preparation * (Major Code: 01106)

This Business Administration 2.0 degree prepares students for transfer admission to California State Universities within the field of Business Administration. This major is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, practices, and values to understand the complex and changing global business environment. Individual courses promote comprehension of the field, foster problem solving, and provide basic analytical and conceptual skills. In addition to meeting the requirement for transfer to any California State University (such as SDSU, for example), the courses listed meet the lower-division requirements for most universities offering a bachelor’s degree with a major in business or accounting. As compared to the original Business Administration ADT, This ADT requires Calculus for Business Analysis.  Most CSUs and many other universities require Calculus for Business Analysis (Math 120 at Southwestern College) in order to transfer into Business Administration majors. This updated version of the ADT does not require CIS 101.  However, some universities such as SDSU prefer that CIS 101 is taken at Southwestern College prior to transfer (as an elective in this case).  See a counselor for more details.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

• Apply communication principles and appropriate information technology to the production of emails, presentations, letters, memos, forms of business communications.
• Analyze, prepare, and present solutions to business problems, applying business concepts in a decision-making environment.
• Perform accounting-related calculations, and demonstrate the ability to use accounting methods and procedures.
• Identify legal and ethical issues in business planning and business decision making in order to avoid legal conflicts and ethical errors.
• Evaluate and discuss the causes and impacts of macroeconomic (business cycle) fluctuations, and the effects these fluctuations have on businesses and citizens.

The following is required for all AA-T or AS-T degrees:

• Completion of minimum 60 semester or 90 quarter units of transferable degree applicable courses.
• Minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 in all CSU transferable coursework.
• Minimum 18 semester or 27 quarter units in major or area of emphasis with a minimum grade of “C” (or “Pass”) for each course in the major.
• Completion of the California State University General Education (CSU GE) Breadth pattern or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern for CSU.  For more information, refer to the catalog section, “Certificate of Achievement” under Graduation, Certificates, and Degree Requirements.

University requirements vary from institution to institution and are subject to change. Therefore, it is important to verify transfer major preparation and general education requirements through consultation with a counselor in either the Counseling Center or Transfer Center.
