Prepares students to work in the area of immigration law. Emphasizes the research and preparation of legal documents, court forms and translation of legal documents from English to Spanish or Spanish to English. Reviews advanced legal terminology-bilingual (English/Spanish). Improves skills in English and Spanish, legal word processing, legal translation and interpretation of legal documents from English to Spanish and vice versa. Students who successfully complete the program will gain a bilingual (English/Spanish) entry-level employment as legal secretaries, legal assistants, legal support staff and case assistants in an immigration law office environment, legal services, local or State government agencies.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Student will work in a legal office setting interacting with supervisors, co-workers, and the public in a variety of ways, including receiving, clarifying, and providing information and direction in both English and Spanish.
- Student will solve problems posed within the legal office environment by assessing information, including identifying issues, complaints, comparing prices, comparing office systems and software, etc., to determine the best solution/s.
- Student will interact properly and ethically in a legal environment with people of diverse backgrounds at work and in the community providing quality customer service in both English and Spanish.
